Cosy Christmas Cottages
We can’t guarantee the weather at Christmas but we can guarantee cosy cottages, jolly woodburning stoves and a stroll around our woods!
During your break we recommend walks along the South West Coast Path, which might include the Mill Bay to Gara Rock walk, stopping for lunch at the dog and child-friendly Gara Rock Hotel and taking in the great sea views from their panoramic restaurant window; or a spot of unique shopping in Dartmouth, Kingsbridge, Totnes or Salcombe.
Dittiscombe offers short breaks over the Christmas period – please see below. If you are considering a break at that time of year take a look at our prices and availability on the How to Book page, or give Ruth or Jon a ring on 01548 521272.
Read Ruth’s Christmas blog which might inspire you, if not for this year, then perhaps next!

Wonderful cottage, wonderful walks and wonderful area. Many thanks.
We only stayed for two nights and I wish we had stayed more. Try to book as long as you can to really make the most of the beautiful surroundings and nearby beaches.
A lovely and peaceful place to stay, reflect and ‘reboot’. Clean and tidy, warm and well provided for.
Our charming cottages are a perfect short break location. In comfortable, cosy cottages, surrounded by an unspoilt landscape, guests have space and privacy in which to relax and unwind. Each of the following cottages have king-size beds, woodburners, and full heating throughout: The Owlery, Honeysuckle, both 1 bedroom detached cottages, and Buddleia and Dovecote, both 2 bedroom cottages with a little more space.
Nearby there’s great walking on the South West Coast Path, around the freshwater Ley at Slapton, or on majestic Dartmoor. We also have a good range of excellent local pubs and restaurants for all tastes, and plenty of unique shopping opportunities in Salcombe, Totnes and Dartmouth. Find out more from our Food & Drink and Great Outdoors pages. And if the South Hams is new to you then click on Ruth’s Blog page and you’ll find a good round up of what this area has to offer.

In The Owlery you are surrounded by meadows and gardens and can snuggle up in the king-size bed or enjoy a relaxing soak in the spa bath, which is big enough for two!

Suggestions for your 3 night break:
Friday evening: Dinner at either The Tower Inn or The Queens Arms in Slapton, and a chance to read up on local history in front of a log fire.
Saturday: Explore Torcross a pretty coastal village just 3 miles from Dittiscombe. The village has many stories to tell, and great places to eat and drink too. From the village car park take either the 1 or 2 hour trails by the side of Slapton Ley and along the South West Coast Path, enjoying both sea and Ley-scapes on either side, or stop at the Memorial Tank to learn more about Operation Tiger, the D-Day landing practises which took place within Start Bay during World War II.
Sunday: Drive to Start Point Lighthouse and take the circular walk round to Great Mattiscombe Sands looking out for seals and seabirds along the way; or walk from Hallsands to Beesands where you will find an excellent fresh fish menu at Britannia Shellfish Cafe or at The Cricket Inn.
We offer our guests at Dittiscombe a Priviledge Guest Membership to Dartmouth Golf & Country Club, just 5 miles from us. This gives a 25% discount on all leisure facilites including the use of the pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room, and either the 9- or 18-hole golf course.
