Dittiscombe Holiday Cottages
Stay near the South West Coast Path and beaches of South Devon

Find your pretty holiday cottage at Dittiscombe Holiday Cottages, a collection of six set in a tranquil South Devon valley. Just a 10 minute drive from the stunning dog-friendly beaches of Start Bay and the historic village of Slapton, and also close to the South West Coast Path, Salcombe, Kingsbridge and Dartmouth.

Our individual cottages are surrounded by an exclusive valley of woodland and meadows, each has a lovely garden with views, free Wifi and some have woodburners and spa baths. Our family cottages sleep 2-6 guests: Willows, Rafters, Dovecote, Buddleia ; and our couples’ cottages are Honeysuckle  and The Owlery.

Many of our returning guests come for the peace and tranquillity we offer, for the freedom to safely walk with children and dogs from the cottage door around our private conservation valley, and to visit and explore all that South Devon has to offer.

We are located in the heart of the South Hams area which has beautiful beaches and estuaries, ideal for relaxing, playing with the dog, surfing and swimming. Slapton Ley is a 10 minute drive from Dittiscombe and is a haven for wildlife. Easy days out with the family and dog might include a visit to the beach at Mill Bay opposite Salcombe, a ride on the steam railway from Totnes to Buckfastleigh, or a play day at Woodlands Leisure Park near Dartmouth.

Dittiscombe cottages are set in a peaceful valley, close to the beautiful beaches of South Devon

The cottages are surrounded by 20 acres of woodland, meadows, ponds and nature trail, and you can enjoy it all straight from your cottage door. Your cottage is comfortably furnished and has a private garden where you can soak up the views and peace of Dittiscombe Hills.

All the cottages have Wifi, digital freeview TVs, some have woodburners and spa baths.

Dittiscombe’s location is ideal for exploring the South Hams and the AONB, a truly unspoilt part of South Devon. Historic Slapton village is just a 10 minute drive away, and there you’ll find two very good dog-friendly pubs serving local food, The Tower Inn and The Queens Arms. There is also a freshwater lagoon at Slapton Ley where you can discover a diverse range of wildlife and take guided nature safaris during the summer months. The unspoilt beaches of Start Bay are nearby too: Slapton Sands, Torcross, Beesands and Hallsands are all dog friendly with some excellent and cafes serving fish ‘n chips and Devon cream teas! Find our more about our beautiful local coastline by reading Ruth’s Blog.

From Start Bay we recommend you take the car and enjoy the spectacular drive to Dartmouth to see its cobbled streets, ancient buildings, and the fabulous views across the harbour, and soak up the stunning view of Blackpool Sands along the way.

There are many award-winning beaches and river estuaries in our local area, most of which are dog-friendly, ideal for swimming, kayaking and watersports. There’s great walking along the South West Coast Path, and the picturesque sailing towns of Salcombe, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are all a short drive away. The dramatic landscape of Dartmoor is to the north, a drive of approximately 40 minutes.

Read our blogs to find our more about the coast and countryside of the South Hams.

What our guests say about us

Gillian & Louise

Thank you so much for such a lovely stay over New Year. We loved Rafters cottage. The cottage itself was lovely and the personal touches (little Christmas tree, festive fizz) were so thoughtful and welcoming. We had everything we needed and you were very quick to respond to our queries. Just what we were looking for – escapism, peace, relaxation, a home from home!

A small complex of beautifully restore cottages set in stunning private grounds. If you like peace and quiet one of these cottages for a week is the place for you. Our cottage was well furnished and kitted out for a week home away from home.
Nearby are lovely dog friendly beaches with plenty of walks available.

A lovely cottage in beautiful setting. Every you will need is provided. The cottage is extremely well furnished and equipped and decorated to a very high standard. I stayed there on my own but is ample size and comfortable for two people. The views are absolutely amazing. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Lovely reception by the hosts, without being intrusive. I have stayed three times at Dittiscombe in three different cottages, each to a very high standard and each with their own charm.

We had a fantastic holiday at Dittiscombe. The location of the cottages is idyllic and allowed us a break of complete rest and relaxation. The cottages (Willows and Honeysuckle) contained everything we could need for our stay. Ruth and Jon were friendly and helpful but also unobtrusive, giving us complete privacy. We will definitely return and also recommend the cottages to friends.

It was our first time in South Devon. A dreamlike-beautiful landscape and the cottage was classy. Freya has been infinitely happy, and we will definitely come again. The next time however not without the golf-bag: have never seen a place like Thurlestone. Fantastic – just like the whole surrounding area. Thank you very much for a great week!

Honeysuckle Cottage was one of the best holiday cottages we have ever rented. After a long day of walking, there was the pleasant anticipation of returning to the comfort of an efficient shower/bath and a glass of wine before cooking a simple meal. The cottage was well equipped, clean and very dog friendly. The little garden made a peaceful haven in the evening and the nature trail around the farm was delightful.
