We look forward to welcoming you to Dittiscombe! Please remember to bring these local directions below with you as not all GPS systems work in this area.
We are located 1.5 miles north west of Slapton Village in the South Hams area of South Devon. The Farmhouse and Cottages are at the end of our private lane and we ask that you drive along this with care as it is used by wildlife, dogs, walkers and horses.
We recommend the Ordnance Survey Landranger Map, number 202 Torbay & South Dartmoor. We have spare copies if you need to borrow one during your holiday.
Our nearest towns are Kingsbridge (7m/10k), Dartmouth (6m/10k), Totnes (13 m/20k), Salcombe (11m/17k), and our nearest cities are Plymouth (30m/48k) and Exeter (40m/65k).
South Devon is easy to reach by road via the M5 and A38. Route planner and traffic information can be obtained from the RAC and the AA and local directions are further down the page. Please scroll down to see Other ways to travel to Dittiscombe.
The transition from fast roads to single-tracked lanes is the sign that your holiday has really started! Read more in Julie’s blog: Devon Lanes and the Art of Mindfulness. If you plan to drive via Slapton please remember it is an ancient village and not build for speed. Read Ruth’s blog: Slapton – Somewhere Special to find our more about the village and surrounding area.
At the present time (July 2018) part of the A379 to Dartmouth via Slapton village is closed due to ‘Storm Emma’ earlier in the year. You can still get to Dartmouth from Dittiscombe via the A381. The road is being repaired and should be re-opened in the Autumn. Please check with us if you have any questions about this or you can visit the Slapton Line Partnership website for more up to date information.
Take the A381 towards Kingsbridge. Continue through the villages of Harbertonford and Halwell and go past the Totnes Cross Filling Station, which will be on your left. Approximately 1 mile after the filling station turn left into the lane signposted Slapton and East Allington (this left turn is on a sharp right-hand bend in the main road). Go down this road for approximately 3.3 miles then look on the right for the white finger sign for Dittiscombe (see photo below). After approximately 0.5 miles you will see on the right a sign for the Dittiscombe Equestrian Centre with wooden fencing and a private lane. Turn right here and with the horse stables and cream bungalow on your left continue down our private lane for 0.2 miles and the farmhouse will be found at the bottom by the gravel car park.
*To buy groceries en-route: instead of taking the A381 at Totnes go towards Totnes Town Centre and a Morrisons store is on your left. When leaving Morrisons, retrace your route to the traffic lights and filter left on to the A381 for Kingsbridge. Also Harberton Filling Station and Totnes Cross Filling Stations, both on the A381, stocks some perishables.
In the centre of the village look for the signpost for ‘Totnes 11 miles’ and with this and the Queens Arms pub on your left continue straight up the hill out of the village to the next signpost at the top of the hill showing Totnes and Halwell. Continue straight on from the Lower Green junction for 1.6 miles then look for the white finger sign on your left for Dittiscombe (see photo). Take this left turn and after 0.5 miles you will see on the right a sign for the Dittiscombe Equestrian Centre with wooden fencing and a private lane. Turn right here and with the horse stables and cream bungalow on your left continue down our private lane for 0.2 miles and Dittiscombe Farmhouse will be found at the bottom by the gravel car park.
On arrival please park in the communal car park then come through the small gate to the front of the Farmhouse. We will show you into your cottage and answer any questions you may have. You are welcome to unload outside the cottage, then we ask that for the duration of your stay you park in the communal car park (except for The Owlery which has its own car park space). If there are more than two cars in your party, can you please advise us before arrival.
Your time of arrival should be after 4pm, unless otherwise agreed. Please advise us of your anticipated time of arrival before the start of your holiday. If you are likely to be later please ring the Farmhouse number 01548 521272 to keep us up to date. If you are going to arrive after 8pm please give us a call so that we can make the necessary arrangements for access to the cottage.
Guests are asked to depart before 10am. You can take your car back to the cottage for packing up, then please call at the Farmhouse to drop in the keys.
